Experts Interviews: Adherence to lipid-lowering treatment by single-pill combination of statin and ezetimibe

Medication adherence is low in clinical practice and is associated with greater risk for adverse outcomes.

A very recent study, based on data retrieved from the healthcare utilization databases of Lombardy, found that compared to those prescribed a two-pill combination of statin and ezetimibe, those prescribed a single-pill combination had an 87% greater odds of being highly adherent and a 79% lower odds of being poorly adherent to treatment.

Two Italian professors Pr. Giuseppe Mancia (University of Milano-Bicocca (Emeritus Professor – Milan) and Alberto Zambon (Associate Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Padova) comment this recent publication highlighting the positive impact of adherence on reduction of cardiovascular events.
